The history begins when the first Brown arrived in Bee County from Georgia after the Civil War. The ranching begins when Austin Brown bought his first ranch north of Beeville in '24. In the ‘40s came the origins of Brown, Beasley & Associates, Inc. (a ranch mortgage loan company) co-owned by Austin's son Ed....which became Brown Ranch Group LLC a few years ago.

Today Brown Ranches encompasses 11,000 acres in South Texas. We raise registered Herefords and breed some of the finest commercial F-1 Tigerstripe heifers found anywhere.

Brown Ranches is a leader in Calf Backgrounding, also known as Pre-conditioning. This process of immunizing and feeding calves and tracking all aspects of the calf’s history has been standard practice with Brown Ranches since the mid-'80s. In the last few years it has moved toward becoming the standard of the industry. Soon it may very well be mandatory.

Austin Brown II (’66) and A3 (Austin Brown III (‘93) both hold degrees in Ag Economics from Texas A&M University as did Edwin (’39). They both grew up with the land and continue to work cattle horseback.

The company maintains an office in San Antonio in the historic Milam building. We've been in this same location for 50 years. “Dorothy Collins is my office manager there and has been with me for 20 years”, says Austin II. “A better detail person AND people person never lived. Lawyers are constantly complementing me about Dorothy and how good she is at what she does”. Our hours are 9 to 5. "Call and ask for Dorothy if you can’t find me. She’ll know the answer!"
